Mastering QuizGenius Outlines: Progressive Summarization, Mind Maps & Audio

Discover the hidden power of QuizGenius Outlines. Learn how to leverage Progressive Summarization, AI Mind Maps, Text-to-Speech, and Auto-Quizzing to supercharge your study workflow.

When you upload a document or paste notes into QuizGenius, the magic doesn't stop at just generating tests. We automatically create an Outline—a central hub for your study material. (And great news: these features are fully shared with your Document Hub, so whether you're viewing an outline or a full document, you have the exact same toolset!)

But our Outlines are much more than just a place to view text. They are packed with powerful, interactive features designed to cater to every learning style. Let's dive into the core features of QuizGenius Outlines, the logic behind how they work, and a step-by-step guide on how to use them.

1. Progressive Summarization

Sometimes, you need to distill a 10-page document into a 1-page cheat sheet. Other times, you want to condense that 1-page cheat sheet into a single paragraph of core concepts. That's exactly what Progressive Summarization does.

The Logic Behind It

Instead of overriding your original note immediately and risking data loss, Progressive Summarization is performed entirely in memory. When you click "Summarize," our AI engine processes the text and generates a shorter, denser version on the fly.

Because it happens in memory, it's incredibly fast and doesn't pollute your database with hundreds of intermediate drafts. You can keep hitting "Summarize Further" to generate Stage 1, Stage 2, and Stage 3 summaries. Only when you find the perfect level of brevity do you click "Save & Keep", which then permanently saves that summary as a brand new document in your Document Hub.

How to Use It:

  1. Open any Outline from your Document Hub.
  2. Open the toolbar on the right and click the Progressive Summary (layers) icon.
  3. In the sliding panel, click Summarize.
  4. Read the condensed version. Need it shorter? Click Summarize Further.
  5. Use the sticky navigation tags at the top to jump back and forth between stages.
  6. Once you are satisfied, click the Save & Keep button on that specific stage to save it as a new note in your Document Hub.

2. Interactive Mind Maps

Visual learners, rejoice! Sometimes reading linear text isn't the best way to grasp complex relationships between concepts.

The Logic Behind It

When you request a mind map, our AI analyzes the semantic structure of your outline and generates a standard Mermaid.js syntax tree. This tree is rendered directly in the browser as an interactive, draggable mind map. It extracts the core entity (the root) and maps out all related sub-topics and definitions branching off it.

How to Use It:

  1. Inside your Outline, click the View Mind Map (split) icon on the toolbar.
  2. The AI will instantly read your document and generate a visual web of concepts.
  3. You can zoom in, pan around, and explore the relationships.
  4. Click Regenerate if you want the AI to take another pass and extract different relationships.

3. On-Device Text-to-Speech (Read Aloud)

Why stay glued to your screen when you can listen to your notes on a walk or during your commute?

The Logic Behind It

To ensure ultimate privacy and offline capabilities, our Read Aloud feature utilizes the Kokoro TTS model running entirely locally in your browser via WebAssembly (WASM). No audio is generated on a remote server, meaning it's incredibly fast once loaded and works perfectly without an internet connection.

How to Use It:

  1. Open your Outline.
  2. Click the Volume icon in the toolbar.
  3. The first time you use it, the app will briefly download the local voice model.
  4. Once loaded, the app will read your outline to you!
  5. Need it faster? Click the same Volume icon to reveal the speed slider, allowing you to listen at up to 2.5x speed.

4. Auto-Quizzing

Active recall is the most effective way to learn. With Auto-Quizzing, your reading material actively tests you.

The Logic Behind It

When enabled, the app uses a lightweight background AI task to monitor what section of the outline you are currently reading. As you finish a section, it dynamically generates a quick pop-quiz question based only on the text you just read, reinforcing the material immediately before you move on.

How to Use It:

  1. Open an Outline and look at the toolbar.
  2. Click the Sparkles icon to toggle Auto-Quiz on.
  3. Start reading. When you reach the end of a section, a non-intrusive pop-up will ask you a quick question.
  4. Answer it to lock in your knowledge, then continue reading!
